Stump Munchers is the brain child of Daniel Murphy, an ISA certified arborist, and recognized author and educator in the tree care industry. When Hurricane Isabel slammed into Virginia and became the costliest and deadliest storm of 2003, Daniel put his tree service, of 21 years, on hold to go down and help out. The initial clean up of downed trees left countless thousands of tree stumps in the wake of the storm. Daniel ground more tree stumps in the next four months than most arborists grind in a lifetime and learned some valuable lessons and techniques along the way.

After the hurricane clean up, Daniel returned to Murphy’s Tree Service, with a new mission, to build Stump Munchers into the leading stump removal company in the region.
